Posture

February 8th, 2008 (01:40 am)

Posture is something I've always struggled with. I'll pass by a mirror and realize i'm slouched over... I always walk/sit this way, and it sucks for me.

So when I'm sitting at work on the computer, I try to focus on my posture, and I'll sit straight up with my abs pulled in.... well, a minute or so after doing this, my upper back (right under my shoulder blades) starts to ache really badly...... Does anyone know why this happens???? It makes me want to slouch back down again......

Did you know?

February 5th, 2008 (08:24 pm)

Sooooo...... apparently Hoola Hooping is a great workout for your hips, love-handles, butt, and thighs. Who would have thought?

Apparently hoola hooping for 8 minutes burns 110 calories. Crazy.

And apparently there are hooping classes. Fascinating.

Now I'm looking for a DVD and weighted hoop combo on Amazon.com =) It'll be a good workout for when I can't go to the gym!

EDIT: there aren't any good combo sets on Amazon =( booooo... The cheapest weighted hoop I've found is 20 (and 10 for shipping and handling) and that doesn't include the $25 dvd i want.... LAME.

Cottage Cheese Loaf (a Vegetarian Meatloaf)

January 30th, 2008 (01:27 am)

I tried this recipe out and made a few alterations, and I really enjoyed it. I haven't had meatloaf since I was a kid, so I'm not the best person to compare it, but it definitely reminded me of it and I liked it.

Ingredients (i know they sound insane, but try it!)

16 oz. carton of small-curd cottage cheese (i used lowfat)
4 eggs beaten (not sure if egg beaters would work - I'll try next time)
1 packet of Meatloaf flavorings (the original recipe called for Onion Soup Mix, but I couldn't find it at the store I was at)
1 cup finely chopped walnuts and pecans (or you could just use 1 type of nut)
1 cup whole grain cereal flakes
1/4 cup chopped onions
3/4 cup tomato sauce

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
2. Grease a loaf pan
3. Mix all ingredients together
4. Spoon into pan
5. Bake for 65-70 minutes
6. Remove and let it sit for 5-10 minutes
7. Dump onto a plate to cut and serve.

Makes about 8 servings and each serving is around 250 calories, with lots of protein and little fat.

I ate mine with ketchup, just like I would with regular meatloaf. Even my roommate (a meat-loving boy) liked it.

101CookBooks.Com - http://101cookbooks.com/ I think it's all vegetarian but damn some of it sounds delicious

And Jezebal.Com http://www.jezebel.com discusses health sometimes, but other interesting things too.

Cottage Cheese

January 25th, 2008 (07:16 am)

So I just tried cottage cheese for the first time ever and....

i like it! which is great since it's amazingly good for me. High protein, low fat, etc etc. The flavor reminds me of a dull mozzarella flavor..... Which I didn't expect.
I mixed it with some diced tomatoes ("Italian style" from a can), and it was freaking delicious. I think I'll have it for lunch tomorrow (today).

Healthy Recipes!

January 9th, 2008 (12:22 am)

So I've been looking around for healthy recipes, and there are some good Livejournals that post recipes.

My favorite one so far is this one:
http://community.livejournal.com/meal_makeovers/

Almost every one of those recipes sounds amazing. I've printed out most of them and plan on trying them out asap.

Another good one is http://community.livejournal.com/ana_recipes/

And http://www.recipezaar.com has a TON of recipes in the Diet Category.

I'll post the recipes that come out amazing =)

(no subject)

January 8th, 2008 (08:24 pm)

So, i've always hated beans. I just haaaate the nasty mushiness of them! But i recently discovered that Red Kidney Beans aren't as mushy as other beans, and i actually LIKE THEM. So anyways, I bought a can... but I didn't know what to do with them besides chili.

So I found this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Red-Kidney-Beans-Rajma/Detail.aspx

I didn't have all of the ingredients, so I kinda adapted this with what I had. Is cajun pepper the same as cayenne pepper? Well, cayenne is what I used instead. And some curry powder - because I enjoy curry powder. And I didn't have whole tomatoes, but i had some canned diced tomatoes. I used garlic powder instead of garlic cloves, etc etc. Although, I regret using the peppercorns - next time I'll just use ground pepper. But anyways, it came out REALLY well. Although - VERY SPICY. I cooked some brown rice to mix into it, to help with the spiciness a bit. But, i love spicy, and I really enjoyed it. Plus, because it was so spicy, I ate slower, and didn't eat as much as I normally would. It is so filling. I ate it around 4 and now it's 8:30 and I'm still not hungry! I brought the left overs for dinner, and I'm sure I won't finish it for dinner either - so I'll have some for a snack later. AWESOME. Healthy, lots of protein, filling. NICE. Give it a try =)

BodyFactory and SoCal Cleanse

November 27th, 2007 (02:48 pm)

So, outside of the gym I'm going to, there is a store called BodyFactory. http://www.bodyfactory.com
They make these awesome (but expensive) protein smoothies called Body Fuel, and apparently celebrities stop in there all the time to get smoothies and to buy health items.

the gym gave me a coupon to get a free smoothie there and to get 20% off of anything in the store. So I asked the workers at the store what would be good to get if I just started dieting, and the guy whipped something called SoCal Cleanse off of the shelf. He said his girlfriend used it and it worked amazingly. Then a female employee walked by and recommended the same thing to me. So I bought it. It's supposed to help you detox without having you fast or anything like that. And, after checking out the website, http://www.socalcleanse.com , I see that many celebrities buy it to help them slim down quickly and healthily. I hope it helps! I'll keep you posted.

Progress!

November 25th, 2007 (07:10 pm)

Ok, so, I joined the gym, hooray. And I've been going the past few days and it just feels SO DAMN GOOD to SWEAT.

AND, Amanda gave me some great meal tips. I'm trying to eat 5 small meals a day, and incorporate more whole wheat into my diet.

And I've been drinking tea instead of sugary/creamy coffees for caffeine.

I feel better already!
